TB-500

ALSO KNOWN AS · Thymosin beta-4 fragment · Tβ4

A synthetic fragment of thymosin beta-4, an actin-sequestering peptide involved in cell migration and wound repair. Full-length Tβ4 has been through human trials for dry eye and corneal wounds; the TB-500 fragment sold for research has no approved human indication.

Mechanism

Thymosin beta-4 binds G-actin and regulates cytoskeletal assembly, supporting keratinocyte and endothelial migration. This underpins its studied roles in corneal repair, dermal wound closure and cardiac remodelling after ischaemia.

Regulatory status

Tβ4 eye drops reached late-stage trials for neurotrophic keratopathy. Injectable TB-500 is banned in sport by WADA and is not approved for human therapeutic use.
