Amylin
ALSO KNOWN AS · Islet amyloid polypeptide · IAPP
A 37-amino-acid hormone co-secreted with insulin by pancreatic beta cells. It slows gastric emptying, suppresses postprandial glucagon and signals satiety. Full concept page: /wiki/amylin.
Overview
Amylin is released together with insulin after meals and acts through amylin receptor complexes, a pathway distinct from GLP-1 and GIP. Pramlintide (Symlin) is an FDA-approved analogue used as an adjunct to mealtime insulin; cagrilintide is an investigational long-acting analogue. See /wiki/amylin for the full explainer.
