An engineered IGF-1 analogue with reduced binding-protein affinity, sold as a cell-culture reagent and misused for muscle growth. Its potency and long exposure make hypoglycaemia and unchecked mitogenic signalling the central risks.
Risk profile
Because IGF-1 signalling drives cell proliferation broadly, sustained supraphysiological exposure raises theoretical cancer-promotion concerns. Acute hypoglycaemia is the immediate hazard. It is prohibited in sport.
