Tesamorelin

ALSO KNOWN AS · Egrifta · TH9507

The only FDA-approved GHRH analogue, indicated to reduce excess visceral abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It is the best-evidenced peptide in the growth-hormone secretagogue family.

Clinical evidence

Two Phase 3 trials showed roughly 15% reductions in visceral adipose tissue over 26 weeks versus placebo, with IGF-1 increases and partial regain after discontinuation.

Later research has examined tesamorelin for liver fat in MASLD, with reductions in hepatic fat fraction reported in randomised work.

Safety

Common effects include injection-site reactions, arthralgia and peripheral oedema; glucose tolerance should be monitored.
