Ipamorelin
ALSO KNOWN AS · NNC 26-0161
A selective pentapeptide ghrelin-receptor agonist that triggers a growth-hormone pulse with little effect on cortisol or prolactin. Development was discontinued; it remains one of the most discussed research peptides for recovery and body composition.
Mechanism
Ipamorelin binds GHS-R1a on pituitary somatotrophs, provoking a pulsatile GH release that mimics natural secretion patterns rather than the sustained elevation produced by exogenous HGH.
Clinical evidence
Phase 2 trials in postoperative ileus did not meet primary endpoints, and no programme pursued body-composition indications. Human efficacy for muscle gain or fat loss has not been established in controlled trials.
